  15. 1.  The purpose of the IGA_Net<tm> Reunions Conference is
  16. to provide an international forum for announcements pertaining
  17. to family reunions held worldwide.
  18.  
  19. 2.  Messages in this echo must conform with the current rules in
  20. place for IGA_Net<tm>.  Please note that any message which is
  21. lawful, friendly, and related to genealogy is not likely to fall
  22. afoul of any IGA_Net<tm> rule.

  24. 3.  Since this echo has always portrayed a rather friendly atmosphere 
  25. and is one of the reasons for its success, small chit-chat is not 
  26. frowned upon.  Participants of this echo come in all ages and 
  27. backgrounds and I believe we all can treat each other with mutual 
  28. respect and courtesy, but in the same light, not mistake soft humor 
  29. as a personal insult.  On the other hand, deliberate rudeness and/or 
  30. harassment is easy to spot and will not be tolerated.  Personal 
  31. attacks or "flames" are prohibited as is offensive language.

  33. 4.  Please leave the moderating to the moderator.

  35. 5.  General announcements regarding genealogical books, software,
  36. or related products are permitted, providing they are brief,
  37. one-time, and the person making the announcement will not profit
  38. monetarily.  Discussion, comparison, and reviews of such products
  39. are encouraged.

  41. 6.  Since names are the heart and soul of genealogy, aliases are
  42. extremely discouraged.  If, due to BBS software limitations, an
  43. alias is used in the message header, the real name MUST be signed
  44. in the body of the message.

  46. 7.  Illegal information or activities are not permitted.
  47.  
  48. 8.  This conference may not be gated to any other network without
  49. the express consent of the IGA_Net<tm> North American Coordinator
  50. (440:1/1).

  52. 9.  Messages should be in English if possible, but there are no
  53. general language restrictions.

  55. 10.  Remember it costs money for most people to receive this echo. 
  56. Please keep message quoting to a minimum by quoting only when 
  57. necessary and then only quoting the relevant parts.

  59. 11.  The use of taglines is strongly dissuaded. In the event the
  60. originator of a message finds he/she has an urgent need to utilize
  61. a tagline, the tagline will only be a short line detailing research
  62. surnames:

  64.              Researching: JONES, GREEN, and CALLAWAY
  65.  
  66. Cutesy taglines add nothing to the value of genealogical research
  67. being conducted by the message originator.... in fact, they detract
  68. greatly from the serious purpose of the message content.

  70. Also, taglines add to the length of messages and therefore add to the
  71. cost of transferring traffic via continental and intercontinental
  72. telephone. Again, you are requested to empathize with those who are
  73. paying the long-distance charges and leave taglines off your messages.

  75. 12.  Questions or comments about these rules, the echo, or its
  76. management should be sent via netmail to the moderator.

  78. 13.  If someone comes up with a new and improved way to aggravate
  79. folks, the moderator reserves the right to make a rule to fit the 
  80. occasion.

  85. Considering that characters with the high-ASCII bit set (above 7F 
  86. hexadecimal (127 decimal)) and characters of value less than 20 
  87. hexadecimal (32 decimal) cause numerous problems with software now 
  88. in use, such characters are not allowed in messages in this echo.
